Nashville Personal Trainer Gives 7 Habits of The Profoundly Fit

Share
Many people come to me and ask me how they can get in good shape or how can they lose this or that. They sometimes get upset with the answer I give them because the reality of is that getting and staying fit is a lifestyle, not a quick fix.

So what I've done is examined people that live fit lifestyles and comprised 7 habits that they practice:

Habit #1: They Don't See Garbage

When I say garbage, I'm speaking of junk food and if they don't see it then its not around them obviously. You can't reach your fitness goals and have snacks and treats looking at you at the same time. Get them out of your house! Don't buy any. Even if you have kids that like junk, you're bound to eat some of it and on top of that they shouldn't be eating that junk either. It's called junk for a reason.

The same way that you'd cleanse your body to remove toxins, cleanse your home of chips, cookies, ice cream, cakes, pre-packaged snacks and anything else that you'd find in a vending machine. Replace the above with veggies, seeds, nuts, fresh fruit and other healthy whole foods snacks.

Habit #2: They Keep Their Fit-Life Integrity

Integrity is having a set of priorities that you live by and that you never compromise whatsoever. A fit person makes working out a priority. Along with keeping a job, paying the bills and taking care of their family, exercise is an important part of their lives. What I've discovered is that a fit person puts exercise before “play” time. Of course, fit people enjoy recreation just as much as anyone else, but its scheduled around their workouts.

Look at exercise as you would any other priority (doctor's appointment, spirituality, work etc.) and make time for it.
Habit #3: They Stop As Soon As They Feel Full

A person that lives a fit lifestyle, stops eating when they feel full. Easy right? It is, but how many times have you stuffed yourself simply to clean your plate? Or how many times have you gone for seconds just because there's food there?

The next time you start to feel “loaded,” take that as the que to lay the fork down and wave the white flag.
Habit #4: They Challenge Themselves

Not only does a fit person make time for their workouts, they push themselves during each workout. Its easy to plainly go through the motions while exercising, but what you're actually doing is cheating your body out of tight results when you don't push yourself. When you exercise, you should be sweating, your muscles should be burning, and your heart rate should be above normal.

Find ways to make your workouts harder. The best way to push yourself is to exercise with a friend of similar strength... that will ignite your competitive side. Another way to challenge yourself is to set small attainable goals. These goals could be to push/pull heavier weight, to increase endurance, or to do cardio at a higher intensity.

Habit #5: They Don't Eat While They Watch

A highly fit person doesn't eat in front of the T.V. Its mindless eating. By not paying attention to your food, you'll be less tuned in to what and how much you're eating. Watching T.V. and eating at the same time is putting poison in yourself x2. Ever notice how you crave snacks as an automatic reflex of sitting in front of the T.V.?

Eat before or after your dose of tel-a-lie-vision (my opinion of it) and notice what and how much goes into your mouth.

Habit #6: They Drink Water

A fit person drink lots of water. Period. Check out my last post to find out the why, how much, and what regarding water.

Habit #7: They Have Support

A fit person doesn't leave their motivation to chance. They know that if their boot camp instructor, workout partner, or personal trainer is counting on them, then they are less likely to skip a workout. It is so easy to hit snooze or to procrastinate out of hitting the gym as soon as you hit the couch after work. To a fit person, the option of skipping a workout is out of the question.

I hope that these habits have moved you to make a change for the better in your own life.

If you're already doing some of these habits then I applaud you – you are on your way to a better body. Trust me, making an effort to incorporate these habits will to take your results to the next level in every aspect of your life.

Don't try to adopt all 7 at once – pick one or two to add each week and gradually work up to all 7.

Cheers,

Rickey
