Nashville Personal Trainer The Captivity of Inactivity

Share

There were a series of studies conducted in 2005 by the Mayo clinic.

The study was done in order to answer the question that we all have sometime: Why do some people who consume the same amount of food as others gain more weight?

It lasted for 2 months and the participants were to eat ALL their meals inside the lab and were instructed to not workout. They also had to wear these high-tech motion-tracking underwear to track their movement.

While some gained weight and others didn't, the doctors were expecting to find some magic secret that would explain why some people didn't gain weight.

The results were quite simple – the people who didn't gain weight were unconsciously moving around more.

Their bodies had responded naturally by making more little movements like taking the stairs, trotting down the hallways, doing more chores at home or just fidgeting.

The ones who did gain weight were the ones who sat two hours more per day than those who hadn't.

I'm sure you're thinking “Duhh!”

And that proves the point - the destruction of western society will be office chairs and couches.

When you're sitting in a chair, especially slouching, you're giving yourself poor circulation, a metabolism that's as slow as molasses, weak muscles, low self-esteem, and of course weight issues.

And the effects of sitting for prolong periods of time don't happen gradually; they happen immediately.

Even if you were to take a day to be sedentary (lazy), your insulin levels will plummet which increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Think about how that adds up over a lifetime.

Sitting is lethal. Literally.

The cure is rather simple though.
  • When you are sitting, simply sit on the edge of your seat. This will put you in a more active position.
  • Don't overly arch your back so much
  • Pull your chin in a bit as if you were avoiding a kiss
  • Take a 20-second rest break every 20 minutes to do some jumping jacks, deep squats and stretches.
  • Go to the mall for 2 hours
  • Get yourself one of these here
  • Just find ways to move more

In short, cutting down your sitting increases your self-confidence, keeps you on top of your mental game, keeps your blood pressure in check, boosts metabolism, increases testosterone, prevents injury, lowers inhibitions, and puts you in a better fat burning zone.

Don't let the seat sap your soul.

Cheers,

Rickey☮
