Nashville Personal Trainer Recommended Supplements

Share

Question: “Hey Rickey! What supplements do you take and personally recommend?”

Answer: Over the years I've taken a lot of supplements. Most of them were from I read in magazines, blogs, word of mouth, etc.

Most never did a single thing for me. Sometimes I just sit around and wish how I could have spent all that money better. But the past is the past.

Recently, I've discovered some off-the-radar supplements that actually do work.

I'm over taking a ton of pills/capsules every day. Popping all those made me feel like I was actually sick than healthy.

The supplements I take now that have me feeling amazing are geared toward optimizing your health as opposed to any bodybuilding needs.

Here's the minimalist approach I take to supplements:

Greens drink
It's been a while since I've popped a multivitamin. Those things are usually disgusting and your body never really absorbs all the nutrients because the darn things are so hard to dissolve.
From those I transitioned to whole food supplements such as spirulina, chlorella, bee pollen, etc.

From that I came across the greens drink mix. I personally use the Greens Plus brand. What they do is take a ton of greens like barley grass, wheat grass, alfalfa, broccoli, algae, “superfruits”, and probiotics and they combine them into a powder to drink.

I like to blend it in my bullet blender with some berries and a tblsp of Royal Jelly. Royal jelly is what the bees produce to feed the larvae. It's their breast milk. Royal jelly contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It also has nutrients that are yet to be discovered by scientists.

Protein powder
Protein powder is not an essential supplement by any stretch of the imagination. I prefer real food over supplements any day. But if you can't get your daily required amount of protein from chewable food, I recommend getting some. They'll make life easier.

But caution. 99% of the powders on the market are made from a manufactured, pasteurized, grain fed, non organic process. That's why people complain of them wreaking havoc on their digestive system, causing excess mucous production and respiratory problems.

I have three that I alternate through: IsopureOne World Whey, and Sun Warrior Blend.

Black Seed Oil

I just started taking this stuff two weeks ago. Black seed is a potent botanical medicinal with antiviral, antiseptic, anti-tumor and anti-fungal properties and very helpful for boosting and strengthening the immune system, counteracting indigestion and expelling various parasites to name a few of its healing qualities.

Its uses date back to the most ancient times. It was used in ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Israel, Persia and Arabia.

All you need to take is half a tsp per day. Just to give you a heads up, it's very pungent so you might want to chase it with something if you're sensitive. I totally recommend it but do your own research on it first.

That's pretty much all I'm taking now. If I come down with something, I usually seek out an herbal remedy way before I check out the pharmacy section. I encourage everyone to get a good, comprehensive book on herbs. I love science, but nature always trumps it in the end.

Cheers,

Rickey☮
