"I get my energy from my inner G
I be in outer space, but I got inner peace..."

It seems like more and more nowadays people are having less and less energy. I mean, just walk around the mall and observer people and its clear as day. Lack of energy equals low morale, low enthusiasm and bad health habits.

So to help out, I'm going to give you 7 of my top energy boosters. Incorporate these into your lifestyle, and if you DON'T get more energy, I owe you a $100 (my fingers were crossed).

Eating Breakfast

Guess what? There's a substantial amount of evidence out there that show that people who skip breakfast have a higher body mass index and are more likely to be obese. And that's mainly because those who do eat breakfast consume fewer calories over the whole day as oppose to those who don't. You need that fuel in your system after a night of fasting. It serves to jump start your metabolism, assist in brain function, and ENERGIZE your body for the physical activity for the day. Its also been shown that eating breakfast improves your mood and decreases your irritability levels. So the next you come in to work and one of your coworkers are being a bit “snappy”, just ignore him/her... they probably haven't had their breakfast.

Early To Bed, Early To Rise

If you're not getting quality and and a good quantity of sleep, you're taking years off of your life. Why? Because bad sleep habits are linked to increased inflammation in the body, a decrease in the production of very important hormones, an increase in insulin and cortisol, an increase in the risk of developing breast cancer, and so on and so on. Bottom line, get quality sleep. Ideally 8 hours, going to bed at 10 pm and arising at 6 am. This allows the body to rest, rejuvenate, and give you that dynamic energy you need for the day.

Midday Power Naps

Kindergartners aren't the only ones who need naps. Grown ups need them too! Taking a 15-30 minute midday nap helps your muscles grow, increases metabolism, relieves stress, anxiety, tension and depression, and best of all, increases the amount of physical energy.

Interval Training

For those who don't know what interval training is, its basically alternating bouts of high-intensity exercise with that of low to moderate-intensity exercise. It has been proven to be more effective for fat loss as oppose to slow and long cardio. Its essentially done with sprinting but it can be done with cycling, stair running, ergometer or elliptical. Brief sprinting at a high intensity is an awesome way to not only burn fat, but it elevates hormone levels and improves oxygen uptake. The good news is it can be completed in 10 to 20 minutes tops.

Krill Oil

The antioxidant power of krill oil is nothing short of amazing. Its 47 times more powerful than that of fish oil. Those Omega-3 antioxidants in it reduces those health-killing and energy zapping free radicals in your body. It also improves glucose metabolism and stabilizes your blood sugar levels. AND, it improves your thinking, mood, and prevents mental decline.

Apples

Eat an apple and I guarantee that your energy will go up minutes later. Its because of the fructose. Now we all know that fructose (sugar) is a big contributor to obesity, but its a different story when its found in whole foods. An apple is 7% fructose, but paired with that are vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber. When you eat an apple, that fructose gets in your blood stream fast and gives you a nice “pick-me-up”.

Coffee

Yes, coffee actually does has health benefits. By having a moderate amount of caffeine, you increase energy availability, decrease fatigue, enhances cognitive performance, and so on. But be cautious! Excessive intake of caffeine may lead to tremors, insomnia, and anxiety. So keep the word “moderate” in mind.

Cheers,
