Nashville Personal Trainer: Your Greatest Super Power (Its not what you think)

Share
Sloth, not ill-will, makes me unjust.

I'm gonna tell you about a power that you have deep beneath the confines of your exterior. Its a sleeping power and unlike those of individuals such as Superman with his incredible strength, Spiderman with his spider abilities, or The Incredible Hulk with his ability to go H.A.M. on somebody at the drop of a dime, this great power inside you must exercise to be effective.

So what is this great power?

It's the ability to fight laziness.

Yes, the ability to fight laziness is a great super power because although everyone can obtain it, only a handful actually have it. Laziness is the bolder in the road that stands in some of our way of getting what we desire. The desire could be anything but for this setting, the desire is a fit and healthy body.

Has this happened to you: every time you want to do something like go for a jog, actually COOK yourself a healthier meal as oppose to eating out, or just getting up in the morning to go workout, you think “why should I do this? Does it really matter? Is it worth it?” The majority of the time, the answers are disappointing and makes you lazy to do anything. You start thinking, “If I begin a structured, organized journey toward my chosen goal:
  • I'll become a slave to routine
  • I'll lose my freedom
  • I'll lose my sense of fun
  • I'll drown in a sea of responsibilities
  • I'll put too much pressure on myself

There are 4 knuckleheads who keep trying us when we'd like to tap into that hidden power to fight laziness:

  1. Cynicism
  2. Negativism
  3. Escapism
  4. Delayism

Cynicism- the act of trying to find a flaw or question the good in everything. Once found, the defect is magnified to the point that it overshadows all the benefits. You ever question yourself with, “You can't lose this weight.” “Why are getting up to workout when you know you'll do a crappy job anyway? Why not skip it?” Watch out for this. The only defense you have for this is to have faith in your ability to improve. Know that nothing will be perfect. If, however, you lock onto the belief that your power to defeat laziness will substantially improve if you stay consistent, then you'll join the many persons who have discovered the joy of seeing their desires transformed into reality.

Negativism- the act of putting the spotlight on all the negative things going on in your life. Have you ever tried to stay focused on what it is that you're after but somehow you tend to merge-focus on all the unpleasant things about all the things that make up your environment? It consumes you so much, that you get to a point where you just ask yourself, “Why bother?” The only way to fight negativism is to CONTROL YOUR ATTITUDE. Your attitude influences your behavior. When you stay focused on what you want and be optimistic about it, you choose your outcome.

Escapism- the act of escaping from what you need to be doing, to focus on other “important” tasks that immediately should be taken care of. You'll say to yourself, “You don't have to write down EVERYTHING your eat. What does this have to do with anything when I just wanna lose 10-20 lbs? Why not go eat that slice of pie in the fridge? You've got plenty of time to write this stuff down.” When you find yourself attempting to escape the discomfort of doing what you know you need to do by pursuing a diversionary activity, ask “Is this just a tactic to sway me from my path to getting in the best shape of my life?”

Delayism- the act of telling yourself “I'll do it later.” To defeat delayism, you must reevaluate your priorities. You have to figure out if your delaying is legitimate; that's to say if the delay is working for you or against you. You have to tell yourself that the only way for you to succeed is if you actually do those seemingly small but necessary tasks. The cool thing is that when you start taking action, you'll actually enjoy doing those tasks that get you accomplishing your vision.

So in closing, you and I must continuously build up our skills and experience in the never-ending fight against laziness by putting that extra effort into our work. It takes steady, reliable, disciplined effort over time. It requires passion- that deep affection for what you're doing, for the sake of doing it. So please, don't be lazy. Be a superhero and fight sloth. Capiche?

Cheers,

Rickey
